Incredible !ndia

Two weeks back I’ve been to Charminar (mean Char- four, minar- spire) with my friend to buy her wedding accessories. While returning from our shopping I suddenly observed people standing on the first floor of the monument. I was amazed as I wanted to mount this Islamic structure since long.

Charminar was built by Sultan Quli Qutub Shah in 1591. It is said that there was a secret tunnel from Golconda to Charminar which was intended as an escape route of Qutub shah (presently the tunnel doesn’t exist). If you stand facing this arch (the bottom pic) on top of the monument on left hand side your will find the fruit market and on the right hand side Laad Bazaar (bangle market). This street is famous not only for bangles but also for all the bridal accessories.

Arch

This place is one of the busy centers in Hyderabad, especially in the month of Ramadan. You can hardly get place to even stand in Ramadan Friday's. I did my wedding accessories in this place, I have a very fond memories related to this place.

This is the view of the mosque which is located in the ground floor of the great Islamic structure. Charminar is considered to be the Hyderabad tourist attraction. .  First thing comes to anyone’s mind when they hear the name of city ‘Hyderabad’ is this four towered monument.

This monument overlooks famous mosque Makkha masjid. This is a beautiful mosque built by sultana Qutub shah 6th emperor in the qutubshahi dynasty. The view of this masjid is awesome on Fridays as you can find hundreds of people offering prayers to God. Opposite to masjid there is Osmania hospital.

Osmania Hospital

Archeological survey of India has closed this monument for public at 1985 as a family committed suicide by jumping from the monument. They jumped from one of the spires of this monument. Authorities reopened it after nearly 2 decades in 2003, but it is open till first floor only. All the entrance to the spires is closed even though there is a very high security.

Here is the collage of few more shots which I felt are worth sharing. In this collage one of the snaps is taken from the top, If I wasn't acrophobic that would have been a better snap. It is my friend who was posing for a snap (taken by the guide ...not me ). You can also find people pouring in, they were school kids from neighbor state.

One thing me and my friend remembered while we were on top is the famous dialogue of Ismail bhai from the movie Angrez.
"Are tum logaan serious kaiko lete yaroon
               Ismail bhai ke patthe hain
Pacchis saal se charminar mein baitha hoon
               Meri  koi izzat hai yarron
Tumla kya to bhi samjhe  re mere ku".

I was very excited and the experience was splendid. Being on top of the mosque which is considered to be one of the wonders in India was amazing feeling. I wanted to share these few snaps with you guyz. Hyderabadi’s who haven’t visited it please go and have fun, it will cost you just 5 rupees. Those who are from different place whenever you come to Hyderabad make sure you visit this monument with out fail.

Cheers,
Vrinda.

Thursday Challenge - 8

Myself: Shall we go to Pizza hut today?
Hubs: hmmm...okie.
(After serious considerations we ordered Kadai paneer pizza, Exotic garlic bread and a drink)
Myself: Wait lemme take a snap of your plate (busily taking snaps)
Hubs: Lemme enjoy my food. I'm hungry (with a look saying "why don't you take snaps of your plate")
Myself: OK! Go ahead.
Hubs: Why do you always click the snaps of food?
Myself: (baffled) What?!! I take snaps of anything interesting I come across...sometimes yours too.
Hubs: Yah I know all I can find is food snaps in your blog.
Myself: I guess you have to check my blog well. I have uploaded snaps of fish, flowers and many more things.
Hubs: Oh yeah! Flowers...before you used to take snaps of them, now food and later what?
Myself: This weeks Thursday Challenge theme is FOOD. I will let you know what would be next weeks challenge.

Next day

Myself: Do you mind If I take snaps of our break fast.
Hubs: I don't mind if you take snaps of your plate.

Reason behind uploading two snaps for this weeks challenge is, I liked both the shots. Especially the second one, it covers almost all my favorite Indian breakfasts.

Mellow Yellow Monday ~ 8

Cake is one of my favorite desserts. I like it soo very much (of course everybody likes it.... here I’m not considering those aliens who do not like it). I like to eat all the kind of cakes, but among all Black forest is my favorite one.  Right now I've stopped eating them, as my hubs is on diet and he is forcing me to follow his diet plan ( he is burning his stomach just to control me from eating it...so sad of me L ). This diet program is on since 2 months...because of which I almost forgot the taste of a few cake flavors.

Recently we've been to bakery, on that day I was fasting (perfect timing isn't it....LLL).  My hubby happily went and ordered his favorite burger and had it. So in order to control my salivary glands I moved away from the table and was looking around the store (which in fact worsened my condition), I could find many cakes arranged in the shelf. All in different fascinating designs, among all this one attracted me the most. I donno the reason behind it (might be it's heart shape...yellow color... chocolate chip on it… the beautiful flower)  but I immediately captured it in my camera.

This week my entry for Mellow Yellow Monday is this beautiful mouth watering cake.

Vrinda.

Thursday Challenge - 7

Brown is the theme of this week's Thursday Challenge. Initially I thought of uploading Coffee cup snap, in the mean this snap popped from no where in my folders. Then I changed my thought and wanted to upload this pic. The three cups with chocolate sauce are of different flavors (though they look like same flavored one).

Now guess which one was my cup.

Dooriyan

Nearly 4 years back I met Miss. A in USA. We used to work in the same place, we became friends and in no time we were separated as I moved to different state. We were constantly in touch through phone. She used to call me or else I did make sure to call her at least once in a day. We used to share each and every thing; each and every important to possibly silly thing was discussed on the phone. She was very supportive to me while I was in turn supportive too. Though I seem to be very hard nut from outward, by heart I'm very weak. I frequently feel very nostalgic and start troubling my lachrymal gland (about which my brother comments as 'crocodile tears'...which are not!). Miss. A was always there to pacify me, she was (is) always so close to my heart.

Later I moved to London. I used to make calls through magic jack.  But the frequency of the calls were not as before. We used to be regularly in touch on mails, the frequency of mails has increased when my magic jack connection got disconnected. This was going on until one fine day I had to travel to India on the occasion of my brother’s wedding. Things changed, as I hardly had any time to mail her. I was very busy with my bro's wedding preparations and shopping. Honestly I missed her, but was really busy with my commitments here in India.

She came to India last month on the occasion of her wedding. She was very excited about this as much as me. We stay in the same city around 15km far away. But things got worsen, after coming here we hardly get time to speak on phone. We do not get time to mail each other, we met just once. But in USA she took the pain to travel from Tennessee to Texas by car, just to say good bye.

Hmmm this is really bad on my part too….I always make silly excuses like “I’m not well... I’m busy going to temple… granny is not well etc etc” I want to meet her and wish her best wishes on her wedding. Hope we get a chance to spend a quality time with each other.  Really when we are closer we take things for granted…I remember a song from movie Break ke baad "Dooriyaan......bhi hain zaroori......zaroori hain yeh dooriyaan".

Cheers,
Vrinda.

Rava Kesari (MYM #7)

This is also known as Sheera in northern India. This is one of the most common sweets you find in temples as offering to God. It is very simple dish which can be made in jiffy.

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup rava
  • 1 cup sugar ( If you prefer it sweeter add another half cup)
  • 3 cups water ( I prefer the sweet softer than dry)
  • 3 spoons ghee ( you can add more too...i like less amount of ghee in my sweet)
  • 1 spoon cashew nuts
  • 1 spoon raisins
  • 1 spoon cardamon powder
  • yellow color
  • saffron strands (this gives very nice smell and taste, the pic I've shown doesn't have saffron strands in it)

Procedure:
  • First fry the sooji/ rava in ghee and keep it aside
  • Boil the water in a pan and add sugar to it.
  • Once sugar is completely melted, add the fried sooji/ rava to the pan and close it with lid.
  • In the mean fry cashew nuts and raisins
  • Now add cardamon powder, saffron and yellow color to the pan.
  • Once the rava is completely boiled take it in to a plate and garnish it with fried raisins and nuts.
I hope you found this easy to cook. I like to have it in the evenings. This would be my this week's entry for Mellow Yellow Monday. Shoot your comments about this recipe.

Thursday Challenge -6

This weeks Thursday Challenge theme is TIME.  I've been through my entire photo folders, I found many snaps related to this theme. Among all I liked this snap, as this watch was a present from my aunt. She is my mom's best friend and very close member to my whole family. She knows that I'm very fond of watches. While presenting this she told me “Just remember that time is priceless and can never be retrieved. You can't change the past , but you can ruin the present by worrying about the future. All you have to remember is in both good times and bad times God is with you and he will take care of you”.

Thank you auntie.

Mellow Yellow Monday # 6, Thursday Challenge 9

One of my favorite festivals is Diwali. It's after four yours I'm in India during this festival. This festival is celebrated due to triumph of  good over evil. During school days I used to burn the crackers, enjoy till dawn with friends and have fun with noisy fireworks.

In Sanskrit Diwali or Deepavali means "row of lights". You find lamps in front of most of the houses through out India. This is the resemblance of spirit and unity of the country.

This festival is also known for Lakshmi pooja (Goddess of wealth) who helps attain health, wealth, peace and prosperity to the family.

Firecrackers come in different varieties from the delightfully visual ones to the ear deafening noisy ones. Standard type of crackers include Flower pots, Bhoo chakra (Ground wheel), Vishnu chakra and Rockets. I've taken many snaps, among all this is my favorite shot. These are my snaps for this week Mellow Yellow Monday and Thursday Challenge. Hope you all liked these snaps.

Thursday Challenge -3

This week Thursday Challenge is MUSIC. The moment I saw this theme I remembered my college Diwali celebration in 2008. This snap was taken by my Nokia N95 mobile. The idea behind uploading this snap is those two guys were singing my favorite song (of course in India everyones favorite song) " Yeh Haseen vadhiyan..." from the film ROJA. This song is noted as one of the best romantic songs in India cinema. During this performance most of the students in the auditorium were dumbstruck. The reason behind it was the guy in the black shirt ( I don't know his name :D ) was singing in ladies voice. I enjoyed this performance to the fullest.

Mellow Yellow Monday # 4

Last week I've been to Chennai. The trip went on very well, as usual I took many snaps there. Here is one among them. This snap is taken near Besant nagar beach outside some antique store. When  I saw this statue I instantly remembered Yellow Mellow Monday. There are few lines on it which are yellow in color. I guess this fulfills the eligibility. Hope you guyz liked this shot. Shoot your comments and suggestions on it.

Mellow Yellow Monday # 2

Ever since I joined MYM group, I'm finding more and more yellow coloured things around me than ever. I've been to a store on the other day, I felt like the whole store is painted in yellow, Posters were in yellow, most of the things they were selling are in yellow or yellow covered , strangely I found the baskets there are in yellow too. When I opened my window I found all the flowers in the grass were yellow, Lines on the road are yellow. Though I see them daily, still I felt something strange about it.

I've taken snaps of all these things, but this particular snap I liked the most among all. So this week my snap for Mellow Yellow Monday is this. I liked those colours, they are so vivid.

Leave your valuable comments or suggestions on this snap.

MeN i LoVe

Seeing this title, these would have been the images that flashed in-to the minds of many of my friends.

Yes it's not their fault, it's all mine. I was an insane admirer of all of them. There were days where my friends used to call me by their names. If their movie was a hit, then I used to spend lot of money in distributing chocolates. I used to cut cakes for their B'days. But presently I'm NOT talking about any of them above.

Men with whom I'm deeply, madly, crazily and frantically in love are my hubby and bro. They are priceless and I can do anything for them. I know my hubby for the past 12 years, we were school mates. But our love blossomed just 5 years back. I fight a lot with my hubs but it takes very less time for me to convince him. All I need to say is a 5 letter word "SORRY". In turn he works on all those secret formulas to harmonize with me. When I whine about my family he looks at me as if he is watching a blockbuster movie. But in turn if I say something about his family he would charge towards me like a bull. He has given up many things in his life to dwell with me. If anything goes wrong in his daily schedule then he won't even hesitate a min to blame me for that, even if I'm nowhere related to it. He frequently gets bored with my cooking. He like all the junk food and enjoys eating them a lot.

Coming to my brother, he is very soft and sweet person. No matter what I say, whatever I do he never gets angry on me. Sometimes I take him for granted, whereas he can't even think of it. When we were kids we used to fight a lot, my mom used to pacify us and pass her judgement. Mostly it was one-sided as she loves him more than me. Did I just nag about it??...I know it happens by nature. But he loves me so much, I love him too. I never miss my dad, my brother has taken care of each and everything I needed. I always thought of how lucky his kids would be. They are going to have a wonderful papa. But I come first no matter what; I reserved my rank for lifetime.

Coming week I'm leaving to India happily to attend my bro's wedding, sadly leaving my husband behind. Yeah he cannot accompany me he is busy with work. Hmm.....I'm gonna miss him so much.

Thursday Challenge - 2

I found this pic in my old albums. It was taken on January 2007 when my mom visited London. This is Tower bridge an iconic symbol of London. The lifting Tower bridge is one of the must watch events in London.

This snap was taken around 7:30 Pm while walking from London bridge towards the Tower bridge on the North Bank. This week Thursday Challenge theme is Creativity (Architecture). I don't think I could upload any better snap than this for that theme.

Mellow Yellow Monday # 1

Once my English teacher told that " Difference between the native English speakers and foreigners can be differentiated just by the usage of Idioms in his/her speech". Since then I'm very fond of Idioms. I always try to use them as much as I can while speaking.

Just now came across this site Mellow Yellow Monday and immediately decided  to participate in it. Here is the snap of my Idioms collection book. I felt it would be fun to start my first post with this snap.

Almond Milk Shake

Today I’m gonna tell you about the age old secret drink. Yes it is Almond milk shake.

My great grandmother told about this to my granny; my granny told it to my mom, aunts and every one in our family, now I’m telling about this to all of you.  Many of you might heard of it and also know the benefits gained from this drink, for those who don’t know this post will tell you.  This is a wonderful milk shake which has tremendous amount of nutrients. But the benefits of it can be maximum extracted iff it is taken in the morning.

**Note: For the first time readers, this blog is not a food blog. I’m writing this post just to share this wonderful drink recipe and the benefits gained by it with all my blog readers.

Ingredients:
·         Milk 2 cups (mainly contains Vitamin C, calcium and protein)
·         10 Almonds (mainly contains carbohydrates, fiber, protein and Vitamin B6...helps in preventing cancer, better digestion and improves complexion)
·         10 Pistachios (mainly contains carbohydrates, protein, fiber...helps in lowering cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart diseases)
·         Sugar 3 to 4 spoons
·         Cardamom 3 pods (treats any infections in teeth, lungs and digestion disorders)
·         Saffron a few stands (reduces high blood pressure, abdominal pains and adds flavor too)
·         Rose water 2 spoons (used as flavor for cosmetic and medical preparations)

Procedure:
·         Soak Almonds and pistachios overnight in water. Grind it along with rose water, sugar and cardamom.
·         Boil the milk (optional, but I prefer boiled milk).
·         Add milk into the mixer and blend it (If you prefer chilled shake them add ice in to the mixer).
·         Garnish with saffron strands before serving.

Now you know the benefits gained from each ingredient, but wondering why to have it in the early morning right. Simple...you guyz must have heard that “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”.  Sugar levels are low in the morning and by drinking something nutritious like this would help the metabolism a kick start. This drink contains proteins and fiber which is very good for our body.

Tip: I know soaking almonds every night and making the juice in the morning is tiresome job. So you can soak half bowl of almonds and pistachios, grind them in to a mixture and save it in fridge for 1 week. Every day before making shake all you need to do is add the mixture in to the mixer along with rest of the ingredients. It will consume just 3 mins of your time.

You all try this at your home, you will surely find some difference. Apart from gaining complexion, it has so many nutrients, proteins and vitamins. It will increase immunity in your body. For those who doesn’t like milk (just like me) a small advice, just take a small cup of it and simultaneously have some dates. Dates will dominate the milk taste and you can gain lot of iron by having them.

Vrinda.

Marine Life

Hi frndz.....

I've been to Sea life last week. Though I watched about sea life in Animal planet and Discovery channel, I was more fascinated to see them in live. Those vivid colors, lovely fishes, picturesque settings in aquarium have really pleased me. So you all guessed right, this post is all about fishes and their beauty.

Fish is a non-tetrapod carinate, a cold-blooded aquatic vertebrate. These have been on earth for more than 450 million years (well before dinosaurs). There are 31,500 diverse species of fishes. Some species of fish can fly, others can skip along the surface and others even climb the rock....interesting isn't it.

As you all know the largest fish is Great Whale Shark which can reach 52 feet. Whereas Stout infant, Philippine goby are few known smallest fishes. When I saw those sharks in the aquarium I was so excited. Though they were not very huge in size but everyone could feel their presence. As sharks are very aggressive, the constantly keep swimming in order to breathe and they cannot sleep for long. One more interesting fact that Tiger shark can lose up to 20,000 teeth in its life time! Incredible..., I wish humans could lose at least 5 teeth in lifetime then I wouldn't had to rush to dentist every time I have odontalgia.

Many of them were debating about the display of sharks in the aquarium. Most of them were against it, whereas I felt it is good to have them as they provide education for the coming generation, unlike divers we cannot see them lively, it is good to display them in aquarium.

Here are few pics which I've taken in sea life, few of these pics are deteriorated because of low light.

This is Yellow tang, very famous salt water aquarium fish. When I was kid, I used to like anything and everything which is yellow in color, later pink dominated yellow. While looking at this fish tank with tangs, it was very joyful. This tank also had Achilles tang, cardinal fish and clown fish.

Below is a collage of Southern stingrays. They have large, flat, diamond-shaped disks without distinct heads. Stingray's skin in processed in to leather that's strong and durable and almost indestructible. Wallets, boots and other accessories made with this stiff leather are now in great demand (>800$). I tried to harass them, one of the staff members admonished me saying that they have venomous spines with serrated barbs on the bases of their tails. Whereas my husband was very kind to them, they were responding very well to him.

Southern stingrays

Below is a collage of Jelly fish, these can grow up to 50cm in diameter and are found in Indian ocean, Pacific ocean and Atlantic ocean. They have a life span of 2 years. These Jelly fish mainly feed on zooplankton, very small marine creatures. They tolerate exceptional changes in temperature -6oC to 31oC.  Their stinging cells do not harm human beings.
Jelly fish

Jewel anemone

Jewel anemone are one of the most interesting animal species that exhibit a high degree of color variability. These reproduce asexually by splitting, which leads to cluster of identically colored clones, and these patches joins up to amazing quilt works of gaudy colors. Their tentacles are short ending with knobs. When I touched them at the centre with my fingers they held my fingers gently with their tentacles. I also held star fish in my hand, it was thrilling experience.

Flatfish are more obviously asymmetric with both the eyes facing same side. Sometimes on right side or left side. Flatfish lays eggs and the baby fish will be symmetric. During metamorphosis in to adult form their eyes migrate across the top of the head onto the other end side of the body, leaving the fish blind on one side. Then loses swim bladder and spine and sinks in to the bottom, laying its blind side on the underlying surface. If you keenly observe you can find three flatfish in this snap.
Flat Fish
You have seen how beautiful the sea life is, but now most of these species are getting eradicated. The most destructive fishing practice, bottom trawling are destroying deep sea life even before scientist can unravel the mysteries of the deep sea. In the past 50 years more than 90% of the big fish is eaten. There is oxygen depletion in pacific ocean because of this, as most of the oxygen is generated by oceans.

This is Green sea turtle, it is largest sea turtle belonging to the family cheloniidae. These are among those species which are facing survival threats like continues hunting. More dangerously they are struck by boats, fishermen nets which lack Turtle excluder device. They are also one of the species affected by pollution and habitat destruction.
Tuna fish is from sconbridae family are fast swimmer (43 mph). Some larger species display a warm-blooded adaptation. Tuna is one of the over fished sea animal, it is  added in to Sea food red list by Greenpeace. If the fishing is not stopped, it will be wiped out by 2012. While Tuna fishing they use very big nets during that many small fishes also come and fall in to the net, the do not have any value in the market. So these fisherman will throw away those fishes back in to the ocean. According to 2008 statistics, for every 1 pound tuna 10 pounds of small fishes are wasted and thrown away.

Frozen Tuna
Toxic wastes are dumped in to ocean. These are poisonous waste which harm sea life and humans too. Toxic waste gets in to the sea by landfills, dumps, mines and farms. These chemicals can have very harmful effect on the marine life. This is a chain, it will in turn effect human beings through sea food.
Below are the images taken from Google Images show the effect of oil spills and toxic wastes.

Residents of Faroe Island, slaughter and eat pilot whales every year. The animal rights organizations have largely backed off because due to the fact that this process is an integral part of the Farose culture. Isn't is brutal, this practice is killing humans too. Many of them get sick because of high mercury levels in the whales. Mentally retarded children are born at high rates.

There are many organizations (IWC etc) and campaigns against whaling, still the whaling is prominent in Norway, Iceland, Denmark, Japan etc. Many measures are taken around the world to stop the gruesome whaling and killing of fishes brutally, there are still so many steps need to be taken to stop this.

People say cradle to the grave now in the case of whales its from wave to the plate.
